Mermaids purse
Wandering along a beach there are unlimited natural treasures to be found washed up on the sand. Each object is unique and facinating. Equally facinating is the channels of water from changing tides that travel around these discarded new obstacles. 'Beachcombing' is a collection of mixed media illustrations focused on the natural interactions between unmoving natural objects and the constant flow of water and corrosion of sand around them.
This illustration is an intruging addition to the Beachcombing collection. 'Mermaids purse' is a nickname given to shark, ray and skate eggs. In this small illustration a hatched shark egg sits discarded on the sand. It is now beach debris creating patterns as the water flows around it. Care has been taken to illustrate the glossy dark shell and the patterns it has created once it's inhabitant no longer needs it.
